New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reached out to the opposition saying consensus is the only way forward and praising the role of all previous governments in the growth of India.
Speaking during the debate on ‘Commitment to the Constitution’ in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said majority in the House does not mean imposing someone’s will.
“We should work more through consensus and not through majority-minority,” PM Modi said.
“Consensus is the biggest strength of our democracy,” he said.
Strongly rejecting any idea of Constitution review the PM said, “the thought of tampering with the Constitution is like committing suicide.”
Praising the role of all the previous governments, PM Modi said, “This nation is made by so many people, all the governments”
“Nobody can say previous governments have not contributed to the development of the nation,” he said.
During his speech, PM Modi also heaped rich praise on opposition leaders including Pandit Nehru as he cited the spirit with which the leaders worked in the past in Parliament.
